People often say there is no beauty in the “process” that leads you to your solution. Here at Changenuity, we disagree. For the past few months, we have been prioritizing the reshaping of our “process” by enforcing a specific company culture.
As we delve deeper into the business world, we have come across many wise corporate veterans that continually speak about the importance of having a great company culture. Company culture is defined as the behaviour of employees within a company and the meaning that employees attach to those behaviours. This culture comes from the company vision, values, norms, systems, symbols, language, assumptions, beliefs, and habits. A Columbia University study shows that a companies with high company culture will have an employee turnover rate of 13.9%, whereas those with low company culture have a turnover rate of 48.4%. This is usually because employees feel unhappy in environments where they are not appreciated or allowed to contribute new ideas. A study in the Journal of Organizational Behaviour suggests that culture causes performance, and the right culture can result in increased profits.
As cofounders, we have been informally developing our company culture from the moment we started collaborating. However, when we recently brought two backend developers onto our team, we decided to put our company’s culture into words.
A team member of Changenuity will:
a) Represent truly and faithfully:
ii) The goal of the company: Improve global living standards and guide society towards a sustainable future.
b) Engage themselves and their skills and knowledge fully in order to achieve the company’s goals
c) Promote the company’s values in themselves and in their interactions. The values are:
i) Growth
ii) Compassion
iii) Responsibility
iv) Creativity and Ingenuity
v) Collaboration
Along with these tenets mentioned above, we stress the importance of voicing our ideas, feedback, and struggles. We want Changenuity to be an enterprise of impact, and as our company name suggests, change. We believe the best way to do this is to ensure that all team members are given a voice; by harnessing the diversity of our team, we are more likely to generate unique solutions. We are really excited about our new team members, and we are enthusiastic about the new ways in which this company can grow with more support on our side.
